Where can I sit the test?

You will be able to sit the citizenship test in selected locations in Australia and overseas.

Is there a fee for the test

You are not required to pay a fee at the time you sit the test. A fee is required to be paid when your Australian citizenship application is lodged.

Australian test centre locations

You will need to make an appointment to sit the test. You can do this by contacting the department by telephoning 131 880.

Waiting times for an appointment to sit the citizenship test will vary depending on where you sit the test. When you call to make your appointment, the contact centre operator will advise you of waiting times and options.

Citizenship tests are held at all departmental offices and at selected regional locations. Regional testing will be undertaken at selected Centrelink and Medicare offices.

Please use the 'test centre locator' below to find a convenient test centre. When you have located a convenient test centre, you will need to contact the department by telephoning 131 880 to make a booking for your test.

If you wish to sit a test at a regional testing centre, the department will confirm these details with you.

Please note: All tests (metropolitan and regional locations) will be administered by officers from the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Staff at Centrelink and Medicare offices will not be able to provide you with any information about your test.

Offshore test locations

If you intend to sit the test overseas, please contact your nearest Australian Embassy, High Commission or Consulate to make arrangements. There will be a delay in receiving your results as the test will be sent back to Australia for marking.

What do I do after booking?

Once your booking has been made, you will receive a confirmation letter (in the post or via email) with information on the test. The letter will also tell you which documents you will be required to bring with you to the test so you can establish your identity.
