Australian Citizenship Day 17th September
What does Australian citizenship mean?
Australian citizenship plays an important part in building our nation. It gives all Australians a unique identity, is a unifying force, and provides a welcome for migrants as full members of our community.
What's it all about?
- Australian Citizenship Day is an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the meaning and importance of Australian citizenship.
- It is a day on which all Australians can celebrate the values which unite us, such as a shared belief in the democratic process and respect for the rights and liberties of other Australians.
- Australian Citizenship Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities and privileges of Australian citizenship.
- We celebrate aspects of Australia and our way of life that unite us as a nation.
- We think about all the Australian citizens who have shaped our nation.
- We think about what it means to each one of us to be an Australian citizen.
