It’s never too late for Australian citizenship

Mrs Monica Buck and her family migrated to Australia in 1949 in response to advertisements seeking skilled tradespeople.

As a passionate tea drinker her main concern was that Australians also drank tea.

After her husband reassured her that she could drink tea in Australia, Mrs Buck and her family moved to Australia and settled in Victoria.

On her 97th birthday last year Mrs Buck decided it was never too late to become an Australian citizen.  On Australia Day 2008, 59 years after migrating, Mrs Buck swore allegiance to her adopted country and Australia was finally able to officially welcome her as a member of the Australian family.

‘I realised that Australia and the people have been very good to me.  I thought I have to give something back so I decided to give myself.

‘This shows that age is no barrier to dreams’, Mrs Buck said.
