Personal identifiers
Main contentThe Australian Citizenship Act 2007 provides a legislative framework for the collection and use of personal identifiers such as photographs and signatures.
Example: Iris scans
What if I do not want to provide a personal identifier?
The Australian Citizenship Act 2007 provides that before an application for Australian citizenship is approved (descent, conferral, resumption or renunciation) and before an application for evidence of citizenship is approved, the Minister must be satisfied of the person's identity. This is similar to the Australian Passports Act 2005.
If a person does not want to provide personal identifiers, and as a consequence the Minister is not satisfied of the person's identity, the Minister cannot approve the application.
