There are two different application forms for Australian citizenship.


Which form do I use?

Your circumstances determines which application form to use:

  • If you are required to sit a citizenship test use Form 1300t – Application for Australian citizenship – General eligibility
  • If you do not need to sit a citizenship test use Form 1290 – Application for Australian citizenship – Other situations
  • If you are unsure the Citizenship Wizard will give you information on the form that best suits your circumstances.

You can apply online or on a paper application form.


How to complete the form

The table below describes the actions you need to take when completing your application form for Australian citizenship.

Your details

Provide your personal details, identify your country of citizenship and whether you have previously entered Australia.

If you change address during the application process you must tell the department your new address.

Your children

Provide details of each child you are including on your application form.

Your parents Provide information about your parents and their citizenship.

Proof of identity List the documents you are attaching to prove your identity.

Identity declaration Ensure the Identity declaration is completed by someone from the designated list of occupations.

Good character If you are 18 years or over, show that you are of good character. You will also need to answer all the questions on behalf of yourself and your children.

Supporting documents List supporting documents you are attaching to your application, if required.

Nomination of representative You can nominate another person who can make enquiries about your application on your behalf. Make sure you sign this authorisation if you wish this to happen.

Proposed overseas travel It is important you tell us of any proposed overseas travel while your application is being processed.

Payment details

Check the current fee for this application

If you wish to claim a fee exemption or concession you should indicate this here. Remember you will need to provide documents to support your claim.

You will also need to nominate your payment method. Generally, fees are not refundable.

Payment

In Australia – Debit card or credit card are the preferred methods of payment. Debit cards cannot be used for applications lodged by mail. If paying by bank cheque or money order please make payable to the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Outside Australia – Credit card payments or Australian dollars (AUD) bank cheques are accepted. If you do not have access to a credit card or AUD bank cheque, contact your nearest Immigration Office outside Australia to find out about alternative forms of payment.
